Entrepreneurial journeys, new faces, and a major celebration. Here’s the latest.

IN THIS EDITION:

“One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that innovation doesn’t happen in isolation.”

Dr. Jarrod Sandow, Chief Product Officer at IonOpticks, returned to WEHI (Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research) to share his entrepreneurial journey at their Entrepreneurship Seminar. As a WEHI alumnus, Jarrod highlighted the challenges and rewards of transitioning from academia to industry, emphasising the importance of collaboration and perseverance in commercialising innovative technologies. His story offered young researchers practical insights on how to scale their ideas into viable products, demonstrating how passion and teamwork can turn scientific discoveries into impactful solutions.

IonOpticks’ largest-ever conference stand attracts attention at HUPO 2024

That marks the end of HUPO 2024! Thank you to the Human Proteome Organization for putting on another great experience. With our biggest stand yet, we knew this would be an exciting conference, but we never expected anything like the support and interest in our products and materials this year. We can’t express enough how good it is to catch up with researchers, partners, and collaborators. This conference may be over, but it isn’t goodbye – it’s auf Wiedersehen.

IonOpticks attends iSCMS in Copenhagen

After the short trip from Dresden, it’s been a pleasure supporting Erwin M. Schoof and the single-cell proteomics community at DTU – Technical University of Denmark as a Silver Sponsor of iSCMS 2024. We extend our thanks for such a warm welcome on our first visit to this beautiful country.

An original opening session delivered by keynote speaker Neil Kelleher set the tone for the event, and a great variety of single cell poster presentations demonstrate the importance of continuing to improving separation.

Thank you for putting on such a rich and engaging event. With this only being the second ever International Single Cell Mass Spectrometry Meeting, it’s exciting to have a dedicated conference for this field. Fostering connections and collaborations can only help in moving the field forward. We can’t wait to see it keep growing and are honoured to support its growth.

Thank you for making our 7 Year Celebration so special.

Our 7-year Anniversary celebration during HUPO 2024 in Dresden brought with it a full house of IonOpticks users, collaborators, and the wider proteomics community – a community which came together to celebrate our journey since 2017. With a long line at the door, your support was deeply felt by our team.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a momentous night. It would not have been the party it was, without you. And huge thank you to Andy and the staff at Altes Standesamt. With your music, lighting, drinks, and outstanding food, we couldn’t have asked for a better tone and experience.

If there’s one sign that our community is growing with us – it’s that every event we throw just gets bigger and better. Here’s to the next chapter, to many more years of innovation, collaboration, and further celebration.

Check out these new application notes from Bruker

Superior Proteome Depth with a Narrow-window dia-PASEF Method

Bruker’s new app note, which features Aurora Series columns, offers a rapid, high-throughput approach without compromising depth or accuracy. The team developed an optimized narrow-window dia-PASEF method for short gradient proteomics, achieving impressive results in just 15 minutes, including 8,850 protein groups identified from human cell line digests. This method offers a promising outlook for proteomics research across various biological contexts. And our 25 cm Aurora Ultimate column provided efficient separation and high-resolution analysis across short gradients, helping the team achieve comprehensive proteome coverage in a fraction of the time typically required.

diagonal-PASEF: an advanced scan mode enabling optimal coverage in combination with short cycle times

If that wasn’t enough, Bruker published another, even newer app note featuring Aurora Series columns. “diagonal-PASEF: an advanced scan mode enabling optimal coverage in combination with short cycle times” highlights the impressive capabilities of their optimized diagonal-PASEF method for proteomics analysis, demonstrating the power of non-overlapping quadrupole window schemes. Achieving up to 122,000 peptides and 8,500 protein groups in just 35 minutes, the study underscores its effectiveness across varying gradient lengths and complex hybrid proteome samples. This application utilized the Aurora Ultimate 25 cm column for longer gradients and the Aurora Rapid 5 cm column for quicker, 5-minute gradients, showcasing their versatility and performance in advanced proteomics workflows. Read how Bruker, with the support of IonOpticks’ columns, is enhancing efficiency and coverage in novel workflows.

IonOpticks steps up for cerebral palsy

TeamIO stepped up for cerebral palsy, a physical disability that affects movement and posture, for STEPtember 2024. We stepped as a company, but not without some friendly competition to motivate us along the way. That friendly competition clearly paid off – some of our efforts were so impressive, they were worthy of a medal ceremony.

Congratulations to:

  • First Place: TJ with 596,258 steps
  • Second Place: Emily with 453,911 steps
  • Third Place: Aidan with 425,998 steps
  • Highest individual donation: Max

A big thank you to Chloe for organising a fun and rewarding team building activity. As a collective effort, #teamIO racked up a total of 4,014,836 steps and donated $2,309 towards CP research and treatment.

TeamIO celebrates 7 years

#teamIO celebrated our 7th anniversary — wait, didn’t we already cover this?

Well, 7 years is such a significant moment in our journey, we had to celebrate it twice. In Dresden, we celebrated with our users and collaborators, without whom we wouldn’t be where we are today. Equally at the heart of it all however, is our team. So at home in Melbourne, we celebrated as a team. Their dedication, from operations to product development and manufacturing, has truly been the foundation of our success. Thank you to each and every individual who has played a role in ensuring our products meet the needs of the global research community, and together, we raise our glasses and look forward to what the next chapter holds for IonOpticks.
