We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Field Application Specialist (FAS) to join our team in this newly created role, as we consolidate our leading market position, and expand into new market segments.
The ideal incumbent will have a proven track record of success in supporting scientists in their daily work, a deep understanding of LC‑MS-based proteomic workflows, and a Masters degree (or higher) in LC-MS-based proteomics or similar. They will also have a proven track record in supporting scientists, expertise in building long-term customer relationships, as well as collaborative experience across internal teams with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

About the role
In this key new role, you will be primarily responsible for providing technical expertise to IonOpticks’ current customers, assisting the sales team in expanding our customer base through product demonstrations, technical onboarding, troubleshooting and building strong relationships with clients.
This role is embedded in the sales team, but will also maintain strong ties with the R&D and customer support divisions of the company. It is a remote role, based in North America, and offers flexible working arrangements. The incumbent will likely travel 50% of the time in the region for customer visits, conferences, and other business activities, with occasional travel outside the region required (including trips to company headquarters in Australia). Being able to adapt to changing travel schedules is essential to meet business needs effectively.
Key responsibilities
- Support IonOpticks customers as a domain expert in LC‑MS-based proteomics;
- Support Business Development Managers (BDMs) in your territory with product expertise and scientific presentations;
- Plan and provide user training, when applicable;
- Develop and implement initiatives to penetrate adjacent markets by understanding workflows and positioning IonOpticks products to address unique needs;
- Strengthen relationships with existing customers to ensure long-term retention and identify opportunities for expanded adoption of products and services;
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, applications specialists, product development, marketing, and customer support, to ensure aligned customer solutions and market strategies;
- Build and maintain strong connections with customers, partners, and stakeholders in your territory;
- Work closely with aligned product service specialists when troubleshooting with a customer;
- Monitor industry trends and competitive activities, providing actionable insights to internal teams to maintain a competitive edge;
- Represent the company at conferences, trade shows, and other industry events, increasing brand visibility and fostering business relationships;
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions in CRM systems;
- Provide regular updates to your line manager and support strategic planning;
- Support product innovation by providing market insights, customer feedback, and strategic recommendations to align solutions with market needs;
- Comply with the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring activities meet quality standards and contribute to continuous improvement;
- Follow all company policies, including anti-bribery, expenses, and travel, maintaining ethical standards.

- Proven track record in supporting scientists;
- Deep, practical understanding of LC‑MS-based proteomic workflows;
- Expertise in building long-term customer relationships, fostering trust, and delivering tailored solutions;
- Collaborative experience with sales, applications specialists, product development, marketing, and support teams;
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are vital, alongside introducing new developments to new audiences;
- Self-motivated, proactive, and ability to effectively work independently and collaboratively;
- High ethical standards and adherence to company policies are mandatory;
- Masters degree or higher in LC-MS-based proteomics or similar.
