Do you offer columns in a 50cm format?
Our column dimensions have been optimised specifically for our 1.6 μm packing material. Due to a combination of unique C18 surface chemistry and bead size, our 25 cm columns consistently outperform larger bead sizes (1.9 μm) used in self-packed 50 cm columns. The reduced column volume also requires less re-equilibration time and allows for shorter loading times with higher flow-rates, facilitating much higher throughput of samples.
Aurora series columns are used exclusively across all the instruments in our own laboratory (Thermo Eclipse (FAIMS), Thermo Q-Exactive, Bruker timsTOF Pro, Bruker Impact II and Bruker Maxis II ETD), with great results time after time.

What LC-MS instruments are Aurora columns compatible with?
We currently offer two column options:
- Aurora Series Emitter Column – compatible with a column oven (Sonation Column Oven recommended) in an open ion source (e.g. Thermo Nanospray Flex)
- Aurora Series Emitter Column with CSI fitting – compatible with a column oven (Sonation Column Oven or Bruker Column Toaster recommended) secured to a Bruker CaptiveSpray ion source. This model has a pre-fitted CaptiveSpray capillary holder and directly interfaces with the CaptiveSpray ion source with no additional fittings required.
Aurora columns are compatible with the following systems:
UHPLC:
- Bruker (nanoElute)
- Thermo (EASY-nLC 1000, EASY-nLC 1200, Dionex UltiMateTM 3000)
- Waters (nanoAcquity, M-Class)
Mass spectrometers:
- Bruker (with Captive spray source and column oven)
- Thermo (with Nanospray Flex Ion Source and column oven)

Do I need a column oven/heater?
Yes! Our columns require a column oven installed at the mass spectrometer ion source (we recommend Sonation Column Oven PRSO-V1/PRSO-V2 or Bruker Column Toaster). Operating a column without a column oven may result in higher back-pressures at optimal flow rates and fluctuating operating temperatures generating inconsistent sample separation.
Can I use Aurora columns with a trapping column?
Aurora columns are designed for the highest possible performance and are optimised for use in a single column configuration (direct injection). The low retentivity of our packing material is not compatible with any commercially available trapping column. Therefore the use of a trapping column is not recommended and will significantly reduce performance.
What options do you offer regarding packing materials?
We currently offer Aurora columns packed with C18 silica resin (1.6 µm, 120 Å pore size).

What additional fittings and adapters do I need?
Our columns are pre-fitted with our nanoZero™ fitting that provides a true zero-dead-volume female union between a nanoViper™ Fingertight fitting (or equivalent) and the Aurora series column. No additional fittings are required.
What temperature should Aurora columns be operated at?
We recommend operating Aurora columns at 40-50°C for optimal performance. The maximum operating temperature is 60°C. At room temperature, the column itself will not be harmed but will result in increased UHPLC back pressure and temperature fluctuations which can make results more inconsistent than if the column was run at a stable temperature in a column oven.
Operation of Aurora columns at room temperature may result in sub-optimal flow velocities and reduced performance.
How should I prepare my samples for a single column (direct injection) configuration?
Samples loaded on to the column should be de-salted and should not contain any contaminants (salts, detergents, solid particles, etc). We recommend neutral SP3 or FASP assisted digestion and de-salt with C18 Stagetips for great results. Using these methods we obtain a column lifespan of 300+ injections. Loading contaminated samples onto the column may disrupt solvent flow or foul the emitter tip leading to a loss of performance. What flow rates should be used?
For typical operation of the columns we recommend a flow rate around 400 nl/min with the column oven set to 40ºC. This will ensure UHPLC backpressures of around 600-700 bar. Flow rates can be increased/decreased to suit particular applications.

How long can I store my columns for?
Aurora Series columns should be stored in a cool dry environment. Each column has a recommended shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacture, making them easy and cost effective to buy in bulk and store in your lab ready for use.

How will my order be shipped?
All columns are manufactured and packed in Melbourne, Australia and shipped globally.
For Australian orders, your order will be shipped via DHL and should arrive within 1-2 days of being sent.
For international orders, we currently ship with FedEx to make sure our products arrive as soon as possible. We can provide a FedEx shipping estimate with your initial quote, or alternatively, use your organisation’s account to ship the goods. Simply tell us your preferred option when placing your order.
What about Customs Duties and Taxes?
Our prices exclude shipping as well as duties and taxes, which may be payable at the receiving port.
Please note that shipping, duties and customs taxes are payable by the purchaser on all orders.
How long will it take for me to receive my order?
We will confirm receipt of your order within 24 hours and confirm when the order will be shipped.
Once shipped, typical shipping times are:
- 1-2 business days for Australian customers
- 3-5 business days for international customers, subject to customs clearance.

What if there is a fault with my column?
Our columns are subjected to rigorous quality control procedures under the direct eye of our Senior Scientists. A comprehensive user guide is also provided with each column to assist with implementation of the column. However, should you encounter any issues, we offer a 100% replacement guarantee on manufacturing faults.
