Montréal Mass Spec Discussion Group (MMSDG) March 2026

March 17 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm

IonOpticks was proud to support the March session of the Montréal Mass Spectrometry Discussion Group (MMSDG), bringing together the local research community for an evening of discussion, collaboration, and shared insights at Université de Montréal. As part of the program, Dr Brendon Seale from the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Sinai Health, delivered an in-depth presentation on the role of commercially prepared nano flow chromatography columns in modern proteomics core facilities.

Dr Seale showcased how commercially packed columns like Aurora Series® are levelling-up core facility performance and output; delivering highly-reproducible results across diverse users and projects, and unlocking the ability to scale throughput to hundreds of samples per day. He also made the key distinction that this increase in speed does not come at the cost of depth, with strong ID performance maintained even with shorter 5 cm columns.

Getting into the detail on gains achieved with off-the-shelf solutions from IonOpticks, Dr Seale walked us through how these columns deliver much greater peak capacity and better separation, allowing faster MS cycle times with more robust quantitation. This is further supported by the integrated column heating, which he says greatly enhances stability and reproducibility across his multiple different workflows and instrument setups.

Speaking from his own experience, Dr Seale really pressed his final point that the shift away from self-packing significantly reduced his operational burden and overheads, allowing high-throughput core facilities like his to focus on much higher-value outputs like method development and end-user support.

Our sincere thanks to Dr Seale for representing IonOpticks, and to the MMSDG for the opportunity to contribute as sponsors.
